When cleaning mattresses and bedding, always check the manufacturer's care label first. In the case of pilows, chances are it can be thrown in the washing machine. Place two or three pillows in the machine, making sure to distribute evenly around the agitator. Use a gentle cycle and a mild detergent. To dry, place in the dryer along with a clean pair of sneakers to keep them from bunching up. To give them a fresh scent, use a couple of fabric softener sheets.
i have a portable/hand held steamer and that is what I use to keep my pillows sanitized and smelling fresh... I have a habbit of pouncing the pillows together to rid of its dust that may have settled and i disturb the dust by pouncing on them before steam cleaning.
How does one remove stains from a matteress?
I did the pillows in the washer and then dryer w/sneaker.....it made them unrecoverably lumpy. If manufacturer says to wash, get it out before the spin cycle. I do believe this(dryer/sneaker) is meant for feather pillows.
When drying a down comforter or pillows I use tennis balls in the dryer when drying to fluff mine. I wash the tennis balls first to make sure they are clean and have never had any dye bleed into comforter or pillows.
I find a clean pair of sneakers hard to come by in our house. We brought a new canister of tennis balls to use when drying pillows in the dryer. We keep them in our laundry cabinet and only use them to keep pillows and quilts from bunching up while drying.
Nice to know about adding the sneakers to stomp the lumps out! My pillows washed fine but turned into one big lump in the dryer, and we had to buy new ones.
Any hints on old stuffed animals?
