How do I remove mildew from shower grouting?

Grout Mold and Mildew Removal

When cleaning a bathroom, be sure to pay particular attention to grout which can harbor mold or mildew if not properly maintained. If mildew does start to creep up on you, try cleaning with a dilute solution of chlorine bleach in water (one cup bleach to three cups water, increasing the bleach as necessary). Spray or sponge it on, wait a few minutes, then rinse well with clean water. Commercial mildew remover sprays can also be used. When using chemicals for cleaning bathroom tiles, be sure to wear rubber gloves and rinse the area well after cleaning. A less hazardous method is to use a peroxide based cleaner, such as Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate. Wet the area, spray Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate on the mildew, wait a few minutes then scrub with an old toothbrush. If the stains are particularly stubborn, you may want to use a stronger dilution of Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate.

This is a particular tough problem, especially if you live in an apartment-it is not that easy to open the windows and get all the fresh air you need. Keeping up with the mold and mildew is the best solution. One shower at a time.

Suprisingly, the best thing I've found to get mold off grout in the shower,is a plain, old bar of Ivory soap. Scrape a stiff brush against the corner of the bar to get a good foamy later going, and just scrub (you don't even have to scrub hard!) the mold away, then rinse it down the drain. Quick, easy, and you don't need to wear gloves or a mask! :-) Works a million times better than any of the "mold & mildew," chemical-based products I've ever tried.

I spray the area with a mix of 1:3 white vinegar:water and leave for 10 minutes then scrub with a toothbrush. Stubborn stains I scrub with neat white vinegar

Would you recommend this type of cleaning solution for travertine? I have travertine in my shower and cannot seem to get the mildew out of the grout but I am concerned that most products are too harsh for the natural stone.
