Bleach is not a stain, it removes color; therefore there is no stain to remove. However, if you spill bleach on a single-colored article of clothing, you can try using Rit dye to restore the color. It is very effective, and quite easy to use - you can even do the entire process in your washing machine. It comes in a wide range of colors, so you should be able to find a color to match, or you can even mix two or more of the colors. The color is as permanent as any clothing dye, so it will fade, but not any more quickly than other dyes normally do. After you have completed the dying process, you can help to set the color by soaking the items for an hour in a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the procedure.
Good, simple and to the point. I guess you could also consider "decorating" (appliques, embroidery, etc.) the garment bleach stains, but sometimes they're in an awkward place or the garment won't look right with decorations. Anyway, the tip about setting the dye was specific and very helpful.
My aunt who raised me used the rit dye to keep the color fresh in my uncles work shirts but she did it in a bucket not the washer i also use it to dye dyeable shoes and white tees and undershirts love the white dye
good tip. never thought of doing that.
i always put bleach in my dish water so i do sometimes get it on my shirts. will have to give it a try.
Now why couldn't I think of that??!! Thanks!!
I tried this on a black pair of pants and it worked great. Tried and true excellent tip!
Bleached cloth will not accept dye. I have tried this and it does not work.
Thought about the dye, but did not know about the vinegar solution-GREAT IDEA and great to know
Thanks...i hope it works! I'll get back to you when we try it!
Rit dye is fabulous. The also have a die remover -- I had a gold corduroy skirt that was washed with new blue jeans. The jeans bled (surprise) and I used Rit day remover and it only removed the blue and not the gold. Of course I then bought a beautiful shade of blue and died a top that i did not care for anymore.
This is helpful, but first of all, what is Rit? And does this work on colored clothes? Second, my yellow shirt got an olive tint that I wan to take out, but it's already been in the dryer. Is the green still going to come out?
