My dishwasher appears to work well but the glasses are very spotty. What can I do?

Make Sure Your Glassware Shines

Hard water can leave ugly spots on your pretty glassware. A dishwasher rinse aid should shine things up. Your dishwasher probably has a special receptacle for liquid rinse aid. Otherwise, get rinse aid that comes in a little basket. You attach this to an upper rack. If you're still getting spots, turn up the water temperature and be sure to use the heated drying cycle. Use a dishwasher detergent formulated to reduce spotting. Be sure not to spill detergent on your glassware. This can cause dark spots.

For those who don't have a dishwasher you soak your glasses in vinegar and it will remove the water deposits.

Try washing your crystal in 1 cup white vinegar and 3 cups warm water. Rinse in warm water. For stains +/or discolorations soak 1 part salt and 8 parts white vinegar.

The stains on glass are composed of calcium carbonate, which is a base. They are vulnerable to acids like vinagar, the phosphoric acid in tub and tile cleaner and hydrocloric acid based pool treatments.(clorine) After soaking in one of the solutions, a fine grade steel wool will wipe the classes clean. Then just rinse.

MaryLou..I have discovered that "JOY" diswashing liquid makes my dishes shine, also I have some stained vintage cups(brown inside) and I added a little bleach(clorox)and let it sit for a few minutes and the stains completely disappeared.
