To remove mothball odor from clothing that has been store, you should first hang them outside in the fresh air for at least two days. After two days, place the clothing into the washing machine and add one or two cups of white vinegar (depending on how large a load of clothes you have) to the soapy water. Lastly, hang the clothes outside to air dry and do not place them into a clothes dryer until you are certain the mothball smell has been removed.
This seems unreasonable because most things that you would use mothballs on are wool.
Hanging wool outdoors just encourages moths to lay their eggs there, unless the temperatures are too low for insect life. I found that airing out the garment for a day is enough. A dryer set to air-dry works well. I have very few wool items today.
Not where I live! Believe it or not that we "Transplants" in the south change from summer to winter clothing. I for one, am skin sensitive to wool, thus, this is a wonderful idea. The mothballs keep more than just moths out of you clothing!
Also, hanging clothing outside is not an option when you live in an apartment building. So then presumably you hang it in the apartment. Will it be just as effective?
not tried yet,but i have lots of white vunigar and if it works a big save
I'm with Diane on this one.
Yes, that's correct so what do you do with wool?
Goodness, I hope this works as i have 2 huge bins full of beautiful baby clothes that all look brand new and are hardly worn that were my sons and have been stored for 23yrs in a plastic bin i shld not have stored them with moth balls as in plastic tubs they did not need them they are completly un touched and now he has 2 babies both sons that can wear them but the odor from the moth balls is overwhelming and what a shame cuz they r very young and hurting for money and these are very expensive clothes!!! I hope this trick works Ive tried airing them out , but not in the sun , and they still smell!!!! HELP!!!!!
