What is washing soda?

Washing Soda

Washing soda used to be used for washing clothes in the old days. It is a form of bicarbonate of soda. It is most commonly found in a blue box by Arm and Hammer. You can buy it at any grocery store in the detergent section next to the boxes of water softener.

Washing soda and baking/bicarbonate of soda are NOT the same things. Baking soda can be ingested. Washing soda is caustic and can not be ingested.

Washing soda is actually carbonate of sodium & is still used in laundry. Bicarbonate of soda is the baking soda, is used in baking & also in laundry, cleaning & deodorising, & that is what is in the box of Arm & Hammer
