Pet Stains- Enemy #1!

Even if you can get to those urine or feces spots while they're fresh, pet stains are one of the most difficult stains to deal with. Some folks will recommend ammonia, bleach or biodegradeable products sold on the market. However, if you have pet stains, it probably means you have pets- and an animal's nose is 10,000 times more sensitive than a human's! Harsh chemicals probably aren't the best idea in this case.
With a hard surface such as cement, I would recommend a floor steamer along the lines of a SteamFast Floor Steam Mop and Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner. These types of devices are lightweight and portable and only use a simple cup of water to produce hot steam that sterilizes floor surfaces. Repeated and regular treaments of your basement floor with hot steam may help to break up the left behind urine crystals that have fallen into the porous surface of the cement.

If my pets were urinating on cement, I wouldn't have a problem - that's easy to solve. What about carpets and upholstery?

This is great if you would give more specific advice. But to be honest my husbamnd is a certifie carpet and floor maintetnance man and the only way to remove the odors and to help eliminate reoccurance is to use an antimicrobial this will remove the majority of the odors. This is availvable in a variaty of sources. Hope this helps.

I have found a product called Simple Solution sold at Pet Smart and Petco to work GREAT! (Puppy training exp as well as an older cat that had kidney failure). The oxy orange has a good smells like an orange and with the oxy it works well, but I prefer the original. It smells like baby powder and works just as well imo. Good luck. If it is in the carpet pad the animal will likely remark in the same spot if there is a trace of sent left. Since we can't smell as well as our pets, use a purple or black light to see if you got it all- it shows up bright yellow in a dark room with a black light.
